Those of us who are a little shorter or taller than average have trouble in all walks of life from finding clothes that fit to finding the right motorcycle to fit. The good news is that manufacturers recognize this issue and have created numerous motorcycles to comfortably fit those that are either tall or short.
One of the best bikes on the market for those who are tall is the Suzuki 650 V-Strom. Not only is this motorcycle good for tall riders, but it is also good for beginner riders as well. Priced at just over $8,000 is a favorite of riders and journalists as well. It is built for the city streets or can take you on a great adventure over the highway or winding country roads. It comes with a 650cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine along with a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. In addition, it comes with standard anti-lock brakes. The seat has a height of 32.3 inches making it comfortable for those with some height.
Another great bike for tall riders is the Kawasaki Versys. The seat height on this bike is slightly higher coming in at 32.3 inches. It also features a 649cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, engine along with a six-speed transmission. Since being introduced to the market just a few years ago, this bike has quickly won over many fans. In fact, it has been called the “do everything” bike and has also won Motorcycle of the Year by Motorcyclist Magazine. It retails for approximately $7,700.
For those of us who are vertically challenged one of the biggest concerns about riding a motorcycle is being able to touch you feet when stopped at an intersection. However, there are several bikes available that will make riding and stopping simple and safe. Two of those bikes are the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and 500R. While the 250R is also good for beginners, the 500R offers twice the displacement. The 250R comes with a 249cc engine that also gets excellent gas mileage and retails for approximately $4,300. It also has a seat height of 30.5 inches. The 500R comes with the same seat height, but offers a stronger engine and weighs sixty pounds more than its cousin. It is available for $5,500.
For short riders who are looking for a cruiser rather than a sport bike, I recommend the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Low. This bike has a seat height of only 26.3 inches, but it weighs a very hefty 565 pounds. This bike features a 1200cc engine and can retail between $7,000 and $8,000. However, this is also very affordable considering the Harley-Davidson name.
Another good bike for those who are of short stature is the Honda Rebel. This bike features a 234cc parallel twin engine and has a seat height of only 26.6 inches. The bike is also fairly light at around 300 pounds. While it might not be as cool as some other bikes on the road, it is very affordable at $4,000. In addition, it is also a good bike for a beginner at the same time.
